We are Here Now, Beijing

2013, MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning

The Civic Data Design Lab at MIT hired me to create an interactive version of We are Here Now! , using social media “check-in” data from Jiepang, a Chinese app similar to Foursquare. The interactive map was exhibited in Get it Louder, an annual arts festival in Beijing.

Technical summary

I used Mapbox and Tilemill to style UTFGrid map tiles from a large dataset of geographic data. Using Leaflet and D3 in Javascript, I created an interactive overlay allowing users to highlight specific locations.
